Each season carries its own rhythm—spring’s promise, summer’s fullness, autumn’s surrender, and winter’s quiet stillness. As the world around us shifts, something within us often shifts too. For many, the colder months or certain times of year bring sadness, loneliness, or a resurfacing of grief for loved ones who are no longer here. This seasonal heaviness is real, and it deserves compassion—not dismissal.

One of the most gentle ways to walk through these emotional shifts is to become aware of our own internal struggles through journaling. Journaling has offered me a safe place to lay down my sorrows, questions, and hopes when I have struggled through rough seasons. It can offer the same for you. With just a few minutes a day, writing helps us slow down enough to reflect and process the emotions that are in our hearts.

In those moments when the weight feels too heavy, Christ meets us exactly where we are. Psalm 34:18 reminds us “The Lord is nigh unto them that are a broken heart.” We can let that closeness become a steadying comfort when emotions feel heightened. Prayer becomes not just a spiritual discipline but a lifeline—a way to reach out, breathe deeply, and rest in the presence of the One who understands every season of the soul.

If this time of year feels dim or overwhelming, let this be your invitation to lean into gentle practices: journaling your thoughts, naming your frief, lighting a candle in memory of a loved one, or simply whispering a prayer that begins with , “Lord, be near.” These small acts can open the door to healing, connection, and renewed hope.

No season lasts forever. Just as winter eventually gives way to spring, your heart can feel lighter by leaning on Christ. God walks with you through every step—faithful, unhurried, and full of compassion. And with each step, you can record the ways He brings comfort, clarity, and peace, creating your own patterned path through the year.

With Love,

Marsha R
